The Future Construction Hub (TITAN) at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences is committed to advancing the use of cutting-edge technologies like Extended Reality (XR) in learning environments. One of our key objectives is to lower the barriers to adopting XR technologies and empower the next generation of learners and developers to fully harness the potential of virtual environments. XR opens entirely new possibilities for immersive and practical learning, addressing the pressing need for innovation and transformation in the construction sector.

Erik Sindonen, a developer in XR technologies and a member of the TITAN project team, is actively working on activities that align with this vision. Our project fully embraces the idea of XR technologies, such as VR headsets and immersive learning environments, becoming an integral part of education. To bring this vision to life, Erik is leading the creation of an entirely VR-based ”Intro to XR” course. This initiative enables hands-on and interactive learning without the need for a physical classroom, showcasing how our project actively drives the integration of immersive technologies into education.

”My Vision for 2025: XR in Every School 🚀🌎
Check out this short video on how XR can elevate education by 2025, making VR headsets 🥽 and immersive learning programs the norm in every classroom. To make that happen, we’re developing a brand-new “Intro to XR” course 📝, taught entirely in VR. No physical classroom—just a headset that opens the door to hands-on, interactive development.”

The Future Construction Hub (TITAN) brings together three major institutions specializing in the built environment in the Helsinki metropolitan area: Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Aalto University, and StadinAO (Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute). The project establishes a low-threshold, platform-based ecosystem to support companies and organizations working on the built environment of the future. The main funder of the project is the City of Helsinki Innovation Fund.
